This talk will discuss best practices, benefits, and barriers to implementing a circular economy, with a particular focus on metals. |
The circular economy: “An economic system in which resource input and waste, emissions, and energy leakages are minimised by cycling, extending, intensifying, and dematerialising material and energy loops. This can be achieved through digitalisation, servitisation, sharing solutions, long-lasting product design, maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishing, and recycling.”

Dr Helena Gomes is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. She has more than 10 years experience in environmental remediation and resource recovery from waste.
Dr Gomes worked as an Environmental Consultant and Project Manager and, from 2006 to 2011, she led the environmental and radiological monitoring programme of uranium abandoned mines in Portugal. She is an active researcher with over 40 peer-reviewed publications, more than 30 conference contributions including keynote presentations and five book chapters on resource recovery and circular economy topics.
